What To Do In An Emergency
🔥 If You Smell Gas
- Do not turn any electrical switches on or off
- Do not use naked flames or smoke
- Open windows and doors to ventilate
- Turn off the gas supply at the meter if safe to do so
- Leave the building and keep others away
- Call 0800 111 999 from outside or a neighbour's phone
- Do not re-enter until declared safe
🌊 If Your Home is Flooding
- Call 999 if you are in immediate danger
- Move valuables, documents and medicines upstairs
- Turn off electricity at the fuse box if safe to do so
- Never walk or drive through floodwater — 6 inches can knock you over
- Call Floodline: 0345 988 1188
- Contact your insurer as soon as possible

💥 After an Explosion
- Move away from the area immediately — do not stay to watch
- Call 999 as soon as you are at a safe distance
- Follow instructions from emergency services

💧 Burst Water Main
- If water is entering your home or causing structural damage, call 999
- Call your local water company (numbers above)
- Turn off your internal stop tap (usually under the kitchen sink)
- Do not use tap water until it has been declared safe
- Move valuable items away from affected areas
- Photograph all damage for insurance purposes
🚤 Water / Coastal Emergency
- Call 999 and ask for the Coastguard
- Give your exact location — use What3Words if possible
- If on a boat, transmit a Mayday on VHF Channel 16
- Throw a lifebuoy or rope if someone is in the water — do not jump in
- Keep watching the person in the water so you can direct rescuers
- If you see someone in difficulty on a beach, tell a lifeguard immediately
