Laugharne is the most literary village in Wales — the home of Dylan Thomas, who lived in the famous Boathouse overlooking the Taf estuary for the last four years of his life and is buried in the churchyard of St Martin's Church. The town is widely believed to be the model for Llareggub in Under Milk Wood.
The Boathouse is now a museum, preserved almost unchanged from Thomas's time. His writing shed — a painted wooden garage where he wrote Under Milk Wood — is preserved exactly as he left it. The ruined Laugharne Castle overlooks the tidal Taf estuary; the Dylan Thomas Birthday Walk takes pilgrims through the landscape he described with such love and precision.
