Long Melford is one of the most splendid villages in Suffolk — whose exceptionally long main street contains Holy Trinity Church (one of the greatest Perpendicular churches in England), and two major country houses: Melford Hall (National Trust) and Kentwell Hall (a magnificent moated Tudor manor famous for its annual historical re-enactments). The village also has one of the finest concentrations of antique shops in Suffolk.
The church, built between 1467 and 1497, is a cathedral-scale Perpendicular Gothic building of extraordinary quality. Lavenham is just 3 miles north, making the two an excellent pairing for a day's exploration of medieval Suffolk.
