Tissington is one of the most beautiful and unspoilt estate villages in the Peak District — a tiny Derbyshire hamlet of just 192 people whose perfect Norman church, Jacobean hall, duck pond and stone cottages have been managed as a single estate by the FitzHerbert family since the 11th century. Tissington is the birthplace of well dressing — the elaborate decoration of the village's five wells with biblical pictures made from flower petals pressed into clay. The Well Dressing Festival on Ascension Day is one of the most distinctive folk traditions in England.
The Tissington Trail — a 13-mile cycling and walking trail along a former railway line — passes through, giving access to the spectacular limestone scenery of the White Peak. Dovedale (one of the most visited dales in the Peak District) is just 2 miles west.
